Students at Fountain Lake High School received a unique perspective on leadership and public service this week during a special presentation by the Hot Springs Village chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA). The program, arranged through the school’s career counseling office, brought several retired and active-duty officers to campus to speak with juniors and seniors.

The presenters shared their personal experiences from diverse military careers, focusing on the transferable skills of leadership, discipline, and strategic thinking. They also discussed various educational opportunities within the military, including ROTC programs and service academies, which can provide full scholarships for college-bound students.

Career counselor Leland Green noted that programs like these are vital for expanding students’ horizons. “Hearing first-hand accounts from individuals who have served at the highest levels of leadership is invaluable for our students as they consider their own futures,” Green said. The MOAA chapter has a long history of supporting local schools and remains a key community partner for the Fountain Lake School District.
